Organisational Development
The aim of organisational development is to increase the effectiveness of an organisation, through working with the whole system, teams and individuals to:
- Increase the capacity to create and manage change
- Build team working and team learning
- Deal with complexity
- Develop reflective practices
- Align individual, team and organisation goals
- Foster partnership working
- Agree and achieve strategic priorities
- Learn to understand and shape the working environment
- Work in politically sensitive contexts
My Approach
My approach is informed by whole systems working and the evidence base of organisational development strategies and techniques addressing planned changes in work organisations. I work with individuals, groups, teams and organisations to find ways to improve their effectiveness and understand organisational connections. This approach involves taking time initially to understand your needs and requirements, and to clarify your aims and agree on outputs. Interventions are tailored to achieve these aims. I provide regular (usually weekly) reports on progress with the work and maintain close liaison to check the emerging direction and outcomes. Work is delivered to agreed deadlines.
Organisational Development Offer
I work with organisations as whole systems in order to understand the context for change and to increase self awareness of what needs to change and who needs to be involved to make this happen. With small groups or teams I work with them to improve their effectiveness, as teams, to develop their strategic and short term priorities and achieve their plans. There is often a focus on aligning the team’s objectives with the wider organisational objectives. Particular approaches include Appreciative Inquiry, Diagnostic review, Real time planning, Facilitation, Developing leadership teams, and Executive coaching.
Recent Organisational Development work has included:
- Supporting General Practices (in their role as Practice Based Commissioners) in a London Primary Care Trust to commission and set up community based midwifery services
- Facilitating PCTs to commission services in line with the World Class Commissioning agenda
- Service reviews to develop best practice
- Team building and priority setting with a number of general practice teams, PCT directorates, service teams, Further Education Colleges, Third Sector organisation management boards, and management teams.
- Working with teams to identify how to succeed in changing organisational contexts
